Kelly Malone

WorkshopPGH
Founder
Long time maker, entrepreneur, interior designer , carpenter and DIY Jane of all Trades, Kelly believes DIY and making is religion. After a long career in visual merchandising, she walked away from corporate America and started cult indie design & music festival Indie Mart, in San Francisco. Highlighting the best in indie makers, food pop ups, garage and beach goth bands. That evolved and led her into creating Workshop SF, the ountries first DIY school offering co-ed, fun and low commitment classes. She used it as a platform to bring makers from Indie Mart and the Bay Area in as teachers- using education and teaching to bridge the gap while growing thier businesses till they could quit thier jobs and follow thier passion full time. In addition to making DIY accessible for everyone and helping folks get inspired, Workshop has bridged the often divided side of tech and art/local culture with DIY by hosting events, classes and live DIY all across Silicon Valley. Partnering local makers and artists with Tech employees to inspire them, get them off thier technology and into sawdust, paint and more. Seeing the changes, growth and gentrification of SF, both good and bad has really driven her to get involved in Pittsburgh to be sure to create strong partnerships with tech and local makers & creatives. She has found a way to be able to follow her passion and evolve her career and businesses to include design, woodworking, art & installations, making, creative/ DIY consulting and event planning- building a fun world around her to just inspire people. Her space and DIY school here in Pittsburgh, Workshop PGH, is a creative wonderland that fuses art, fun design and making into one awesome space. She was most influenced by a Mom that was always sewing and a Dad always drinking beer in the garage building, wanting to bring folks together to make and have fun with it, hence the motto drink beer make stuff.
