Borough of Wilkinsburg

During her first term as a Wilkinsburg Council Member, Marita Garrett founded “Community Conversations”, an initiative to connect and empower residents to work together for neighborhood improvement. In furtherance of that goal, Ms. Garrett co-founded the Free Store Wilkinsburg, where donations of material goods are thoughtfully paired with families and residents.

In her professional life, Ms. Garrett is also the co-owner and managing partner of Admintrinsic, which provides outreach and engagement services & consulting to entrepreneurs, small businesses, non-profits, and mid-level corporations.

Ms. Garrett received her Bachelor’s in Psychology and Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master’s in Psychology from Chatham University. She has been awarded the Alzheimer’s Association-Greater PA Chapter’s Community “Outreach Volunteer of the Year” and named the “Rising African American Leader” by the African American Alumni Council at the University of Pittsburgh. Recently, Ms. Garrett was honored with a 2015 “40 Under 40 Award by Pittsburgh Magazine.

Currently, she serves as First Vice Chair of the Congress of Neighboring Communities (CONNECT) as well as a member of both the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) Advisory Board and the YWCA’s Young Leaders Board.  Vice President Garrett is Chair of the Borough’s Social Media & Promotions Committee and sits on the Capital Planning & Public Safety Committees.
