Kenny Chen

Since arriving in Pittsburgh in August of 2014, Kenny Chen has been voraciously involved in a wide variety of activities and initiatives across the city. He currently serves as the Program Director of Thrill Mill, an early-stage startup accelerator that also produces the annual Thrival Innovation + Music Festival. Kenny focuses his attention on curating and delivering innovation programs (workshops, panels, experiential activities, etc.), often in collaboration with other organizations and communities throughout Pittsburgh.

On the side, Kenny works as the co-founder of involveMINT, a nonprofit startup that works with local businesses to reward volunteers who create valuable digital content and data for the organizations they serve. He also serves on the boards for Social Venture Partners, the MIT Enterprise Forum, and the Pittsburgh Young Professionals, through which he offers grants, pro-bono consulting services, and workshops. Every month, Kenny hosts Social Innovation Meetups through SIM Pittsburgh and cross-sector networking happy hours with PGH Connectors. He occasionally organizes larger events as well, including Startup Weekend competitions and the upcoming "Beyond the Menu" series, focused on a variety of topics at the intersection of food and innovation.

Kenny was born in Madison, WI, raised in Las Vegas, NV, and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Social Psychology. He has worked in several places around the world, including San Francisco, Washington DC, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. He came to Pittsburgh for the Coro Fellowship in Public Affairs, a transformative experience that quickly gave him a wide breadth of knowledge and a deep love for the city.
