At the University of Pittsburgh, Babs works for the Innovation Institute, as Director of Education and Outreach. She teaches the Benchtop to Bedside technology commercialization course to clinicians, researchers and graduate students as well as a similar class for future Coulter Foundation Fellows. In her role at Pitt, Babs is involved in multiple programs to stimulate and support innovation and entrepreneurship, including, the Randall Family Big Idea Competition with $100,000 in prizes for the best student big ideas.

Babs is a co-founder and past chapter chair of Women in Bio. She also teaches at Thrill Mill, educating their teams about entrepreneurship and how to build better businesses. For 15 years at Carnegie Mellon University, Babs was Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship in four different schools: business, computer science, engineering, and Heinz College. Previously, at CMU, Babs was Innovation Advisor at the Institute for Social Innovation, and Embedded Entrepreneur for Project Olympus where she worked with faculty to commercialize innovations. 

Babs has a Masters in Public Management (MPM) from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon. Babs attended Reed College in Portland OR, and received her BA from Mills College in Oakland CA.
