Technology is allowing us to empirically and accurately determine what we know, how we know it, and how to protect ourselves and our neighbors. Innovators have developed groundbreaking new methods and devices to fight back —  we’ve enlisted help in surprising new sectors to allow women to employ science and technology as a means to to help protect other women and the vulnerable from harm — particularly within the realm of cases most difficult to prosecute.

Thrival partners with the Pittsburgh Chapter of Women In Bio to link scientific innovation, law, and economic growth in an interdisciplinary forum of experts, entrepreneurs, and researchers who have developed key tools to fight against sexual violence and human trafficking. This program showcases cutting-edge technologies to combat, prevent, and prosecute brutality against women and the vulnerable in Pittsburgh and across the globe.

The annual Pittsburgh’s Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Rally (P.O.W.E.R.) is a celebration of the contribution local women are making to life sciences and healthcare. P.O.W.E.R. 2016 will showcase the use of science and technology in championing new methods for protecting women. Five successful Pittsburgh innovators will highlight cutting-edge technologies used to combat, prevent and prosecute sexual brutality in Pittsburgh and across the globe.

Pittsburgh has gotten a lot of attention recently from Uber's launch of its first fleet of autonomous vehicles. However, this is only the latest milestone in a long history of innovation in transportation and infrastructure. From railroads and bridges to trolley cars and airports, Pittsburgh has been at the center of many transitions, both good and bad. Today, the city's (usually) positive repuation around its bridges and rivers are juxtaposed with notoriety for unintuitive roads, crumbling infrastructure, bad drivers, and poor accessibility.

We invite Stan Caldwell (Executive Director of Traffic21), Sean Luther (Executive Director of Envision Downtown), Ian Neumaier (Founder of Find Some Flow), and Allison Plummer (Co-founder of Transit-Source), to discuss these changes and their significance for the future.

Transforming from  "Steel City" to "the best place to live" and "Hot new food town," Pittsburgh has rebranded itself as a leader in living innovation.  Dr. Vonda Wright, Orthopaedic Surgeon, author and change-maker shares her vision for transforming Pittsburgh from "Healthcare city" to the "healthiest city" by harnessing our technology, community and corporate power to build a city that lives more.

She is joined by digital health evangelist, Nick Adkins, BikePGH Executive Director Scott Bricker, City of Pittsburgh Chief Resilience Officer Grant Ervin, and Fitt.co founder Anthony Vennare.

Thrival welcomes a panel of sports experts and professionals as they discuss the ins and outs of sabermetrics, the nature of the business of sports, and what it means to be clutch.

Modular synthesis is back! In this panel locally owned and internationally recognized brand Pittsburgh Modular discusses why this old technology is resurfacing and how it is changing the way music creators work. Joining them on the panel are representatives from Roland, creators of the legendary TR-808, TR-909, TB-303 and many more classics. These companies are responsible for the technology that's not only made much of modern music possible, but have inspired generations of musicians to push the boundaries. Joined by  guest artists King Britt and producer/music technologist Nate Mars, the panel will discuss creative approaches for working with modular synths in studio or live performance and what about workflow with modular gear inspires creativity in new directions.

Virtual Reality technology has finally come to a point in time where it is getting ready for the consumer mass market and content creator alike. It offers brands new ways to tell stories. It also offers travelers, explorers and gamers new ways to navigate immersive virtual worlds. So what is Virtual Reality? What is 360° video content and how is it different from 'VR'? Where is Virtual Reality now and where is it headed? In this panel, V Owen Bush, Dennis Adamo and Nate Mars of SpaceoutVR will explore these topics.
